Student Spotlight

As part of their 2022-23 curriculum, students studied civics and history, and created multimedia presentations about their research. Below are excerpts from some of their projects.

Sixth graders researched a neighborhood organization that served their community well and used Canva to create a newsletter. Excerpts below.

Fifth graders worked independently to research a community of which they are a part, write an essay, and make an accompanying creative piece. Nochtli chose to research Summer on the Hill. She made a diorama to showcase our three core values and created a slideshow about them.

Summer on the Hill has changed a lot, but it also changed me. It allows me to learn tons of new things that I might have never learned in elementary school, whether it’s math, civics, engineering, or an elective. Through SOH, I have been able to connect with my peers and ask questions, find answers, and have fun! I can hang out with friends and be myself at SOH, and that’s the reason why I chose SOH to research.”

Group project

During the 2023 summer program, fifth graders studied over-cultivation and used engineering skills to design a farm and farming method that addressed the problem. This diorama was created by Cristopher, Mylee, Nochtli, and Samantha.
