Summer on the Hill Class of 2014

High School Attended: Stuyvesant High School

Undergraduate College/University: Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute majoring in Mechanical Engineering

Abdullah currently works at Summer on the Hill as an Assistant Teacher/College Intern. Some of his interests are fencing, filmmaking, reading, and writing.

What was your admissions process to Summer on the Hill like?

It was a fairly comprehensive process which involved testing, a classroom simulation, and an interview. I was very young at the time, (I was entering 3rd grade), and so it was a new experience for me.

Was there a particular teacher or administrator who stands out for you?

Mabel Rodriguez has been a fantastic administrator throughout my entire time at SOH. I especially value the work she put into the Saturday High School Program. SOH was invaluable in helping me in the college admissions process, with visits to colleges, and a great deal of assistance and help in other aspects of the process. She is a very kind and helpful administrator and someone who has always been there for the students.

What would your adult self tell your young self about taking a leap of faith with Summer on the Hill?

I would tell my younger self that Summer on the Hill would help him greatly in ways he could have never imagined, and that he will greatly cherish and remember all the summers he spent there.

What is your favorite memory at Summer on the Hill?

My favorite memory at Summer on the Hill is being a mentor in the summer of 2016. It was a very enjoyable and rewarding experience and was a great opportunity to give back to the Summer on the Hill community.

What advice would you give current Summer on the Hill students?

The advice that I would give to the current Summer on the Hill students is to enjoy your time at SOH and to really try new things. SOH allows for a lot of new and interesting opportunities that you may not have experienced before.
